Banish Bullying Ideas

Here is the Pemberton School Pledge AGAINST bullying...

BULLY FREE Pledge
We do our best to solve problems peacefully.
We speak up if we see others being treated unfairly.
We have the right to be ourselves.
We like it that people are different.
We are kind and respectful to one another.
WE PLEDGE TO BE BULLY FREE!

I print this out and glue it onto a poster board for every classroom.  Students sign the pledge and then receive wrist bands that say I PLEDGE TO BE BULLY FREE.  They can wear these to school each day to remind everyone of our pledge to keep our school safe.

I also do a bullying poster challenge.  Students are challenged to create a poster that visualizes part of our pledge.  I hang these posters around the school. Here is the flyer I gave out to each student.

Anti Bullying Poster Challenge

Help spread the news that Pemberton is BULLY FREE.  Design a poster to be hung somewhere in the school.  Read our Pemberton BULLY FREE pledge.  You can design your poster using one of the statements in the pledge.  You can also design a poster encouraging others to report bullying when they see it or if they are being bullied.

Poster Requirements & Suggestions:
Use ½ a poster board (14” by 11”)
Make a rough draft before starting.
Make sure to use lots of color.  Pencil will not catch the eye of other students.
Have an adult check your spelling.
If you need supplies see Mrs. Bazemore she will help you!
Make sure that your name is on the back of the poster.  Mrs. Bazemore will make a name plate to hang underneath your poster in the hallway.

Posters will be accepted until November 4th.  Please turn in your poster to Mrs. Bazemore.

This challenge is completely voluntary!  All grades are invited to participate.  Please let Mrs. Bazemore know if you have any questions about the challenge.

This year I plan to take on a new approach!  Here are my ideas... not sure which one I will do yet!

1.  Have each student make a medal to hang around their neck.  We will have medal days where students will be asked to decorate their medal accordingly.

Day 1 (September)- One word that describes you and makes you special.
Day 2 (November)- Something you are grateful for.
Day 3 (December/January)- One kind word that describes someone else (students will get someone else's medal to decorate.  They will then give it to them to wear).
Day 4 (February)- Something you love about yourself!
Day 5 (March)- One word to describe a good friend.
Day 6 (April)- One kind word that describes someone else (students will get someone else's medal to decorate.  They will then give it to them to wear).

2.  Continue with bully poster pledge and bracelets.

3.  On the medal days each month students will wear RED to remind them of their pledge.

4.  In the hallway coming off the bus loop I will have the pledge displayed.  Each student will be given a star to decorate and write their name on.  The stars will be placed around the pledge.  Grades K-2 will draw a picture of how they can be a good friend.  Older students (3-5) will complete the sentence:  I will keep Pemberton bully free by: _______________________.
